Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51M viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
